In the beginning of the semester, my thoughts of art were drawings, paintings, sculpture, performances, museums, etc. Art is related to many parts of the world than we realize; it’s not just a painting on a wall at a museum. I don’t believe my idea of art has changed, if anything my idea of art expanded to what it really is and how we don’t see art and beauty in things. At the end of the semester, what art is to me is that it can be so many things. For example, photography can be a part of art, not many people agree because it’s just an image on a screen. Or it’s an image on a wall but we can say the same thing to a painting as it represents as image. Photography can present itself as an art as we can recreate by drawing or painting it by showing what it can or could be. Yes, it’s not the same as painting an image but both can have so much meaning behind it. My major is psychology, psychology is the science of human behavior and mental processes. This includes the study of the mind, the brain, and human and animal social interactions. My career goals are to help others when they are dealing with a situation that they can’t control. It’s difficult in this world as there are obstacles that are hard to face then myself and others can help. What I believe is the art of my major/ career is seeing what the mind can do to a person as we can also help them. We understand see the situation and turn their life around, which is what I was talking about earlier when there’s so much background and meaning that we don’t see. Art pleasures that I might enjoy are performances and seeing the art people create while trying to find the meaning behind it all. In my opinion I do believe engaging in artworks can complete myself as a human being because whenever I’m stressed, I can always draw to help calm myself so I can be distracted from what I was doing. Yes, art does matter because without it, everything would be so bland and hard to talk as we try to describe things but we can’t. Also, without artists it is hard because music makes everything better rather it being awkward and silent. I do agree but also don’t with what NEA said with “a great nation deserves great art”, sometimes they don’t deserve it. What if they are giving off a bad sign but they are known as a great nation. That doesn’t mean they deserve great art. Also, with poor countries that are struggling; they’re not known as a great nation but it doesn’t mean they don’t deserve great art. I’ve experienced no motivation this semester, however art was the one class I looked forward to too. Art will mean to me from here and later in the future as something that is beautiful.
